Project information

This project, developed within the Three-Dimensional Design Laboratory course, involved the design of a self-supporting three-dimensional structure for a ceiling light. It utilized folding techniques applied to planar materials—using a single flat pattern—without the need for any mechanical fasteners or adhesives.

The form was developed from an elementary motif—a circle with five isometric rectangular strips—which was mirrored and translated to create a modular grid. Structural stability is ensured exclusively through "T-slot" interlocking joints, used both to connect the elementary motifs and to articulate the strips that form the socket housing, allowing it to open for bulb replacement. Translating the prototype from its initial cardstock version to 0.5mm transparent PETg required a rigorous study of tolerances and material compensations.

The final result—measuring 255x265x255mm—incorporates a 35W LED bulb (400 lumens, 2200K color temperature), revealing the light through the shaped material.
