Project information
This project was developed for the Photographic Planning course, where we explored the creation of title sequences.
I chose the series Adolescence (Netflix), which takes a raw look at social pressure and the complexities of youth. I opted for animation rather than live-action footage, giving me greater control over composition and character distortion to create an unsettling visual effect that aligns with the series' tone. Red is the dominant color, reinforcing a sense of urgency and inner conflict. Distortions, tilted angles, and effects such as pixelation and blurring heighten the feeling of unease. The song "Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots complements the anxious atmosphere. The project was guided by Aaron Becker—a renowned title sequence designer and co-founder of the studio Filmograph—whose work includes sequences for Get Out, Aquaman, The Haunting of Hill House, and Wednesday.
Aaron provided personalized feedback throughout the process via our instructor. The final sequence integrates frame-by-frame animation, credits, and editing, foreshadowing the emotional world of the series.
