Project information
Developed within the Production Design course unit, this project involved the design of a modular bird water station intended for use on urban balconies, terraces, and patios. The goal was to raise awareness among city dwellers regarding bird conservation by fostering the integration of nature into urban spaces through a functional, sustainable, and aesthetically harmonious product.
The process began with research into interlocking systems and plywood fabrication techniques, followed by the exploration of three distinct concepts developed as rapid cardboard mock-ups. The final design—featuring a partial canopy, a removable basin, and a varnished plywood structure—was selected for its wind resistance, ease of assembly, rainwater harvesting capability, and seamless integration into the urban environment. The modular, flat-pack design maximizes material efficiency, while the interlocking joints eliminate the need for hardware, ensuring both simplicity and durability. The project also encompassed technical drawings, assembly instructions, and physical cardboard models, demonstrating proficiency in technical representation, sustainability, and design communication.
