Project information

This project was developed for the Drawing and Visual Communication course and was based on David Hockney’s technique of "drawing with the camera"—photographing a scene from various angles and assembling the images like a mosaic to capture different perspectives and the passage of time.

The challenge was to apply this method to a self-portrait, starting with a 180-degree photo shoot featuring multiple images of myself in various poses and expressions within a chosen setting. The photographs were printed and arranged into a composition that served as the foundation for the creative process. Working over this montage on tracing paper, I created a series of drawings that culminated in three distinct final pieces. The first, a realistic graphite drawing, corrected photographic distortions while embracing inconsistencies—such as repeated body parts—as elements of the visual narrative. The second, featuring vibrant colors, was driven by concepts of energy and movement, using vivid tones to convey dynamism. The third—more artistic and experimental—was executed in pen and depicted me as a skeleton, exploring the body's internal structure and fragility.

This exercise enabled me to understand the relationship between time, observation, and representation, and how the fusion of photography and drawing can create richer, more personal interpretations of reality.
