Umbigo Magazine - Sebastião Rodrigues

Project information
This project, developed within the 2D Design Laboratory course, involved creating a special edition of Umbigo magazine dedicated to Portuguese designer Sebastião Rodrigues, an iconic figure in national design.
The editorial approach was grounded in in-depth research into his body of work, aiming to visually translate his graphic language—characterized by dynamism, color, and formal boldness. The front and back covers were conceived as visual collages bringing together fragments of his work, reinterpreted into a single illustration that pays homage to his visual identity. Inside, the main article—spanning five to seven pages—is built upon a structural grid that balances text and imagery, utilizing a vibrant color palette and a carefully considered typographic hierarchy. Designer Marco Sousa Santos was selected for the opening spread, featuring an opinion piece that occupies a right-hand page. The edition also includes a double-page spread of short news items, incorporating varied formats and reading rhythms.
The project is realized in both digital PDF and printed formats, demonstrating skills in layout, typographic composition, and editorial organization.
